Perspectives are a way of identifying a point of view, or classifying a sub-set of performance metrics.  Often they represent an operating area or class of measures.  Within PM-Express, they are a convenient way of identifying and grouping your performance targets and scorecard layout.

Kaplan and Norton (1), the pioneers of the Balanced Scorecard concept, identified four perspectives:

  1. Financial
  2. Customer
  3. Internal
  4. Learning and Growth

Another set of perspectives that can help you develop a balances set of metrics might be called the "Family of Measures", represented by the following:

  1. Inputs
  2. Outputs
  3. Efficiencies
  4. Effectiveness
  5. Outcomes

Pm Express lets you choose one of these approaches, or define your own set of Perspectives.  Measures are then added for each Perspective, according to the objectives within your enterprise.
